MBBR process principle is to add suspended carrier into the reactor, improve the biomass and biological species in the reactor, thus improving the treatment efficiency of the reactor. Because the density of the filler is close to water, it is mixed with water during aeration. The environment for microbial growth is gas, liquid and solid. The collision and shear of the carrier in the water make the air bubbles finer and increase the utilization rate of oxygen. In addition, each carrier has different biological species inside and outside, some anaerobic bacteria or facultative bacteria grow inside, and aerobic bacteria grow outside, so that each carrier is a micro-reactor, nitrification reaction and denitrification reaction exist simultaneously, thus improving the treatment efficiency.
MBBR process has the advantages of both traditional fluidized bed and biological contact oxidation method, which is a new sewage treatment method. It relies on aeration and water flow promotion in aeration tank to make the carrier in fluidized state, and then forms suspended active sludge and attached biofilm. This makes the moving bed biofilm use the whole reactor space, giving full play to the advantages of both attached phase and suspended phase organisms, and making them complement each other. Different from the previous packing, suspended packing can contact with sewage frequently and many times, so it is called mobile biofilm.
